discovering vulnerability for the sake of an oath
makes a case for security, questions comfort in growth
i faked a life thriving off of pretenses and stunts
ignoring my psyche, hunting an image or blunt
but an image will fade, and a blunt become ash
then i’m left with a construct to identify as.
so i’ve started to crop out distractions that knot
speaking with purpose, and living as ought
for if all life is terminal, then why not be personal
in all interactions, show passion, be versatile
place your kernel of faith in a love that’s eternal
behave as a person whose soul’s universal
not bound to a culture profiting off the inferno
where the threat of damnation turns you into a burro
this is just a metaphor, granted sharp and solemn
but the truth is even sharper, it can cut away your problems
like cancer there’s rarely a clear answer
transparent at the start, pronounced dead in the next stanza
panting for a second chance; don’t play it safe, be honest
tomorrow is a brand new day, but isn’t always promised
